"Chi-ca-go, chi-ca-go"s back!

Driving through the neighborhood early Sunday morning gave me a wonderful thrill. Scurrying across the street, and in and out of bushes were the bird I've been waiting and waiting for. The cute, comical, handsome California Quail.

There's quite a little covey of them in my neighborhood, and every spring I look forward to their return. I was too busy on Sunday with meetings, and church to spend any time with them, so yesterday I grabbed my binocs, and my camera and took a little walk down the street.

I didn't have to walk far before I heard them calling out, chittering and chatting to one another. So I hunkered down and just sat and watched for quite a while as they darted across the roads, into and out of trees, and shrubs, pecking at the ground for this and that.

They eventually ended up gathering in some nearby shrubs and just seemed content to sit and cluck at each other. I thought it was so cute I had to do a little recording of it. Not much to see, but plenty to listen to.

I love them too. I think it's the adorable jaunty top feather. We do not have quail up here on the mountain. Thanks for the listen. I haven't heard them in quite a while.
