Yes. They do go hand in hand.
My household has begun a new fitness program. Along with exercise, sore muscles and lots of sweat, this program also generates a lot of food scraps. Almost all of which...well, actually, so far there's no "almost" about it - all of which is compostable.
Yay for a compost bin! Look at all those healthy food scraps ready to break down and become my garden's next awesome growing material. Anyone brave enough to try and identify what we've been eating lately?
On another note - it's still raining. And while that's great for growing gardens and lawns, sunshine is too. Could use a little more of that.
"When one tugs at a single thing in nature, he finds it attached to the rest of the world." John Muir (Misquoted)

Yard Changes
There is this little corner of my front yard that is just hard to water. My main sprinkler pattern (I don't have an automatic sprinkler system, it's just me, pulling the hose around) gets the main chunk of the yard, but this little area requires me to re-set my sprinkler, move things around, and keep my water running longer than I want it to be running.
So I decided to make a little change. I'm removing the grass from that area and replacing it with a little rock, flower garden, with terracing and pretty little plants growing from the rocks. Maybe a bird bath as well.
Yard work sits well with me. I just bought an electric lawn mower (I've been borrowing my dad's gas mover for the past 4 years - it's about time I had my own) and have been enjoying my time mowing, edging, pulling weeds, planting flowers, watering rose bushes, and now ripping out grass, and planning for creative terracing.
I'll get some pictures of the slow progress.

Grass and the Neighbors
The grass is coming up nicely. There are a few spots that are still bare, but most is coming in thick and green.
And then the county decided to bring these in to the neighborhood, and land one right in front of my new grass. And of course everyone had to fill it up, and not just from the roadside.

Breaking my Back
My front curb is officially dead. And my lawn is actually returning to its lovely green state. I'm hopeful some good might soon come of my weed spraying.

This evening, I got out there with a borrowed tiller. After 1 1/2 hours of work, I've now completed an area approximately 3' x 3' square. Humm.
This is going to take longer than I thought. By the time I finish tilling all the weeds up, new ones will have moved in. Maybe I should start planting the new grass as I finish a section of tilling. That could be kinda fun. Till, plant, till, plant.
