Bird Photography Weekly

I am a bit late joining in this week, but better late than never, eh?

After last week's rain storms, we finally got some more snow, and that seemed to make the birds come out to the feeders en masse. One of our frequent visitors is the Black Billed Magpie. A lot of people really dislike this bird. They are loud, obnoxious, greedy, messy. But they really are quite pretty.

Enjoying a little nibble of suet.

Look at the tail on that beauty!

Magpies, along with a few other species, are also natural garbage collectors, and help keep the planet clean. So despite their obnoxiousness, I am rather fond of Magpies.

To see other birds from around the world, click on the link below. And you don't have to be a professional photographer (heaven knows I'm not) to join in. So if you have some images of birds, feel free to share them with the world!

I have to agree, beautiful bird but they are annoying. We have them at our cabin and they often won't leave us alone. beautiful shots though!

Very cool bird! Are these the same birds that star in the Windex commercials?

They look a lot like the Windex birds, don't they? But no, they aren't the same.

Oooo, I love them and do not find them in the least annoying. But then I do not live with them,

I don't see magpies very often, but they are quite striking. This past fall I saw yellow-billed magpies, the black-billed's cousin, for the first time (in central Calif). Both species are fun to encounter, but I can imagine how obnoxious they can be.

I'm even later this week... I've been saving this post in my google reader the last few days... well saving most posts, but was waiting for a few minutes of peace to truly read and view yours.

GORGEOUS green tail feathers :) Love that second picture there... thanks for sharing! I don't mind them, but then again, haven't seen one, lol. But I love the yellow-billed magpie and the scrub jays we have.
