Bird Photography Weekly

I was just getting back from taking a group snowshoeing and heard this little flock of birds. I couldn't tell what they were at first. From a distance they looked a little like flycatchers. But it would be very strange if that's what they really were; not the right time of year.

As I got closer, I realized it was a nice little flock of Cedar Waxwings. I scanned a bit to see if there might be any Bohemian Waxwings in the crowd, but they were all Cedars. Fine for me. I love Cedar Waxwings. I love that sinister looking mask they wear. I wonder what they're trying to hide?

Love Cedar Waxwings . . . they look like paintings not real birds! Thanks for visiting my blog!

Nice captures of the Cedar Waxwings Wendy. They do look like paintings don't they? I love the way they flock together and sit in the trees en masse or scurry through the trees or shrubs eating berries.

Beautiful shots. My favorite feature of the Cedar Waxwing is the yellow tail tip.

Great captures, Wendy! What I love about Cedar Waxwings is that they are always in a group. It's very seldom that you see a Cedar Waxwing all by itself.

What beauties! I just love Cedar Waxwings-they seem so exotic and mysterious with their black masks. Glad you had your camera with you on that snowshoe hike :)

I saw a flock of them (lifer) this weekend and it was so exciting. There were 60+ of them - seriously, I took a picture and started counting :)

That was very cool as my mom had never seen them before in our yard - or even in the area over the years she's been birdwatching.

Beautiful birds :) I sure wish the visibility was better so I could have had a wonderful picture. As it was, I salvaged about 10.

I haven't seen any waxwings yet, but I am looking forward to it. They are beautiful, and a sign that spring is getting closer.

Hello. Wonderful photos. They love to gorge. Funny how they always keep a branch or two between them and you. I took a photograph of some Bohemian Waxwings. If you want to see it, it is at http://palliserpass.blogspot.com/2009/01/behind-swansea.html

Take care.
